Skip retired Operator and old Agent-mode names. Use ChatGPT Work, tools, and cloud browser for one supervised after-work task.
ChatGPT Work is the current ChatGPT mode for longer, multi-step tasks and finished deliverables (docs, sheets, planned research). Open chatgpt.com. Skip tutorials that send you to operator.chatgpt.com. Standalone Operator is retired. OpenAI's help for the old "ChatGPT agent" name now points to Work for multi-step jobs and cloud browser for supported browser workflows.
After work: one supervised task, few tools, no secrets in the prompt.
After-work Python learners who want ChatGPT to research or produce a file. If you need a browser loop in your own Python, use Browser Use. If you need repo edits, use Amp, Cursor, or Claude Code.

Go to chatgpt.com or the ChatGPT desktop app. Remove stale Operator bookmarks.
In the mode switcher choose Work (the app may also list Chat and Codex). In the composer open tools or type /. Enable only what tonight needs—often web / cloud browser plus files. Disable unused connectors.
State the goal, allowed sites, forbidden actions (no inbox login, no purchases, no posting), and the output format (an 8-bullet markdown brief). If the UI offers /plan or show-plan-first, use it.
When Work asks to confirm an action or opens a cloud browser, read the prompt. Take over for any login. Do not type passwords into chat. Stop the run if a page tries to override your instructions.
Copy the deliverable into your notes folder. Delete the chat later if it touched anything semi-personal.
Work brief: "Compare Browser Use open-source docs vs ChatGPT cloud browser for after-work Python. Output a table: job, when to use which, one official URL each. Do not sign into any site." Approve only read-only browsing.
You practice supervising a hosted agent: brief, tools, confirm, save. That habit transfers to every other agent in this series.
When the brief/tools/confirm loop is boring, put the same discipline into Python with Intro to Python Programming.
